A Visit To Winbak Farm
Last week our LCYS team paid a visit to Winbak Farm, in Inglewood, Ontario. Farm Manager Pat Woods had the welcome mat out and we were treated to a wonderful lunch and great conversation.
After touring their lab and breeding area we were introduced to a fine pair of stallions in Beach Glass and Lawless Shadow who have just completed their first season of standing stud.
We’re told Beach Glass was bred to 113 mares this season and his fertility is exceptional.
We then moved outdoors to join a large group of mares, with their babies, in the field… An amazing experience to see the herd make their way towards us and be so well-behaved when up close face to face.
Following our visit we received a message, from Woods, after the draws for the Monday program at Grand River Raceway were complete.
“I looked up the entries for the Battle of Waterloo and Battle of the Belles,” mentioned Woods. “Winbak Farm is heavily represented with 10 Winbak-bred two-year-old colts and fillies entered. And 22 of the entries are from Winbak sires. We’re very proud of our studs, they must be doing something right!”
Also of note is that 2 of the entries, in Monday’s elimination races, are Winbak-Canada raised.
The rich two-year-old pacing finals will be led on Monday, August 5th with an afternoon post time of 12:30. It will mark the 35th edition of Industry Day.
“We’ve had a great relationship with management at Grand River Raceway - Jamie Martin, Chad Rozema and now Jenna MacDonell,” says Woods. “Industry Day has a Little Brown Jug feeling to it and the racing has every chance to get better with their new five-eighths track.”
